What are the basics I need as a beginner in jewelry making?
No 'departure', but not yet silver, creativity, etc. .... What tools or books can you recommend for me? I am very new at this. Thanks
There is something in the market now is called Precious Metal Clay. Silver is not terribly expensive. They have a low cooking temperature one, too. I get most of my sources (I use the Most wire, and perhaps some thin veneer) of Santa Fe Jewelers Supply www.sfjssantafe.com. Their prices are excellent and their customer service is excellent. You can get the wire in all thicknesses (gauges, the higher the number the smaller the cable) and materials. Sure, get some sterling silver. Moreover, I recommend a bit of nickel silver and even a little red copper wire - are inexpensive "practice" cables for most of us. You can get some leaves in any metal you like, too, I recommend a little practice supply that too. I even sell some of my things because red brass it is a nice color. Go dig your site. This is a wholesaler, but you do not need a resale license to buy there. The site is created primarily for those who know what they're looking for. Click "metals" link under "Online Catalog" in the upper left quadrant of the screen. It is a good place to start.
